Problem Time: Anwuli-Nakamura Solution

From yesterday:

I was watching some blitz games on Chess.com and happened to catch the following.

Anwuli-Nakamura, 3 minute game
Black to move

Can Black save the game?

Answer:

No, Black cannot save the game. But he can try for a swindle.

1 ... Rf2+

Now 2 Rg2 and White wins easily enough. Unfortunately, Anwuli (an IM from Nigeria) chose

2 Kg3

and had to resign when Nakamura played

2 ... Qf6

Can you see why Anwuli resigned? (I didn't.) White has to give up his queen to stop mate, since

3 Qe6 h4+!
4 Kg4 Rf4#

is the main line. Instead White has to try 3 Qf5 Rxf5 4 exf5, but after 4 ... Qe5+, White will eventually lose the c4 bishop, when his game is hopeless, even if he had more than seven seconds left, which would have been the absolute most he could have had. A tough break for the young Nigerian!
